Brides, Festivals and Babies....

It's been a busy few weeks at Kate Balding HQ, I've been meeting lots of new brides-to-be for wedding trials, honouring flower garland orders for weddings & festivals and providing one-on-one tuition. It's been great fun making people look beautiful and finding out all the wedding details (including cheeky sight of top secret wedding gowns!).

My main challenge this year was to get driving and I passed my test (first time!) early August (woo hoo!). So, I am now a makeup artist avec wheels - which should make life easier transporting my massive kit wherever I go.

Last weekend I attended V-festival where the lady herself Beyonce headlined - an amazing day shared with great people (let's not mention the rain!). I have attached a few pictures of the day below, I wore a handmade flower garland, vintage 1960s kaftan and my lippy of the moment - MAC's Candy Yum Yum!

On top of all this, my cousin gave birth to baby Arthur - was soooo excited to meet him and already cannot wait for more cuddles!

Next weekend I have a massive cupcake order for a 30th birthday party. Its been a while so I'm looking forward to chucking the apron on and getting creative - will definitely share pictures.

So lots of good news and fun stuff going on, if you haven't already, be sure to visit my facebook page (link below).

Have a fantastic bank holiday weekend and until next time.... x

Wireless 2013 Hair & Makeup

Festival season…makeup, hair & flower garlands.

What with the arrival of festival season in London, we’ve welcomed lots of new clients visiting our studio for ‘pre-festival beautification’ - hair, makeup and to purchase flower garlands.

Here are some beautiful shots of client Nicola ready to hit Wireless 2013!

List of products used:

Skin: Bourjois Healthy Mix serum foundation (Shade 53). This foundation is a delight to work with, skin looks flawless, is hydrating for drier skin types and lasts all day - currently a favourite in my kit.

Eyes: MAC’s Samoa Silk on the lids (a peachy colour to emphasise Nicola’s lovely blue eyes) and MAC’s Espresso (brown) run through the crease and under the eye to give a smokey effect.

Lips: My personal favourite, MAC’s neon pink Candy Yum Yum, lined with MAC’s Magenta (the title says it all!) - A duo that when paired give longevity.

Cheeks: A sweep of MAC’s sweetness (pink)

Hair: Loose and tousled crown plait

Flower Garland: bright pink and yellow ranunculus.

To blog or not to blog....

To blog or not to blog - that has always been the question - for one reason or another I never managed to write a single post! Now, here I am, late Saturday evening, writing post number one, hopefully one of many….

The ‘about me’ bit; I’m a normal girl with a lot contrasting interests. For starters I’m a politics graduate working for a large government department (Ministry of Justice), but I’m also a make up artist. I’m passionate about gender equality and proud to call myself a feminist - I’m a baking enthusiast, am part of a book club (sometimes code for ‘let’s drink lots of prosecco!’) a lover of all things vintage and creator of bespoke floral garlands…..

Aside from the day job, my current weekend project (in conjunction with Gemma Whitbread of Makeup London ( offers accessible and portable make up and hair services from our studio in London’s Brick Lane. Doing what I love best (i.e. make up), using new products and meeting new people, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to start recording my journey via blog posts; writing about new experiences, book / product reviews and sharing vintage finds, bespoke flower garlands and cupcake designs - ultimately, sharing what impassions and inspires me!

So as I reach the end of post one - I want to say hello and thank you for reading this far… Adieu until post number two!x
